Bikes not dead 1: The Dutch.

How has it been over a year and a half since I've posted? I definitely didn't stop taking pictures. I'll do a couple of roundups before resuming for real (sorry guys. If anybody even reads this.). Here are the Dutch style, curvy bikes I've seen since October 2011:

A bright end to a fryup

I traveled to a faraway place to have this (amazing) English breakfast yesterday:

And saw this when I walked outside...

There was no good angle for this shot.

There was no great angle from which to take that, but I'm sure you can see it was stunning. The most accurate yellow in this picture to how brilliant this bike was is on the top tube, toward the seat. Went so, so well with those hot pink grips.

Pink Peugeot

I was walking around with my friend Mike after brunch a few weekends ago; I'm sure you can imagine why this bike caught my eye:

That's a bike for summer.

Look at the little pink orange and yellow diagonal stripes on the seat tube. So sunny.

Lemon Meringue Schwinn

I spotted this down the block from one of my favorite coffee shops this afternoon.

Definitely lifted the stress of my day a little! Happy summer, guys.

Spring in downtown NYC!

I spotted this lovely thing while grabbing coffee with Bud this afternoon. It made me want to make a yellow cake with pink icing.

Cake or death? Cake, please.

I'm on the lookout for a bike again. Three things about my current bike: that it's from the 70s, that it's a cruiser, and that it's a girl's bike make it next to impossible to carry to and from my walk-up. So it's permanently in my apartment now. What I need: a single speed (fewer gears: lighter, also more nimble for quick streets-of-NY decisions), and a boy's bike (good for hoisting onto my shoulder when carrying up stairs). I hope I find something before it gets too hot to commute.

Bike riding weather is back.

Last weekend, the weather was beautiful.

Volume Bike Co.

These two bikes are quite different but equally wonderful. I love the script on the above, and I love the powder blue with lemony trim below. Oh, and the white handlebar tape. Makes me want lemon meringue pie.

Civil War rider

I saw this springy seafoam & yellow Bianchi yesterday, one of the coincidentally springiest days I remember.

Lovely Bianchi.

The bike's owner was sitting next to it, looking around and wearing a Civil War-style hat. Hope he didn't mind.
